The Best Points And Miles Promotions Going On Now

Many people know that you can earn airline miles when purchasing flights, and hotel points when staying at certain brands. However, many are unaware that you can purchase points and miles from most major airlines and hotel chains. Earlier this month I wrote about how purchasing miles from an airline can make travel significantly cheaper. I also wrote about how you can fly first class for up to 90% off in some cases by purchasing miles. This can also be true when booking certain hotels using points instead of cash.

Right now there are multiple promotions going on, offering great bonuses on purchased miles and points. Here are, (in my opinion), the top three promotions for January:

IHG 75% Bonus On Purchased Points

Right now, one of the world's largest hotel chains is offering up to a 75% bonus on purchased points. IHG has over 5,000 hotels around the world, including some pretty spectacular properties. For this promotion, if you buy 5,000-19,000 points you'll get a 50% bonus, while you'll get a 75% bonus if purchasing more than 20,000. This can be a great value in certain instances.

For example, The InterContiental in London can easily cost $500+ a night, or 70,000 points. If you were to buy 70,000 IHG points during this promotion it would cost you $399 (0.57 cents per point). That means you'd be saving over $100 a night by booking with points instead of cash. This is also true at many other IHG properties and can potentially save you a lot of money on your next booking. IHG points can be purchased here.

Iberia Avios Sale

Iberia Airlines is a major European airline based out of Madrid, Spain. Their miles, (called Avios), are currently on sale right now for about 1.4 cents each. This deal can be found here on Groupon. Iberia Airlines has flights from New York to Spain starting at 17,000 Avios in economy. This means you'd need 34,000 Avios for a roundtrip or 68,000 for business class. This translates into you getting a roundtrip business class ticket from the U.S. to Europe for under $1,000, a fantastic deal!

World Of Hyatt 30% Bonus

Hyatt is currently offering a bonus of 30% when purchasing 3,000 or more points. This makes the cost of each point about 1.85 cents. Hyatt has some very nice properties where these points can be redeemed for an excellent value. A great example is the Park Hyatt in Sydney, Australia. This hotel is one of the top luxury hotels in Sydney and rates can easily start at $1,000+ a night.

Instead of spending $1,000+ a night, use points! This hotel is bookable for 30,000 Hyatt points a night, and at 1.85 cents a piece, you could buy that many points for less than $560. That's nearly 50% off! There are many great Hyatt properties around the world and buying points can be a great way to stay for less. You can purchase points here.
